Apple to charge for iPad upgrade
iPad users to pay a fiver?
Apple will charge iPad users to upgrade to the new iOS4 operating system, due out in the autumn, according to Stuff.
The UK site broke the news today saying that they have heard ‘whispers’ that Apple will charge for the update, which was free to all iPhone owners and came with the new iPhone 4.
Apple has charged iPod touch owners for software updates in the past – but didn’t for iOS4 – and charged in the region of £5; the same price Stuff has suggested for the iPad update.
Apple used to justify charging iPod touch owners for updates because they didn’t pay contract like iPhone customers do.
iOS4, which brings multitasking and the promise of online gaming in the near future is set to be released for iPad in the autumn. The update is available now for iPhone 3G, 3GS and 4, and iPod touch 3rd generation.
